ELT SochINSETT Project

Projects in Education form a valuable part of the work of the British Council in the region. In April 1998 the work on developing a Russian Version of SochINSETT (Sochi In-Service Training Project) have been Initiated and sponsored by the British Council and Sochi Educational Department. SochINSETT is aimed at introducing a new model of In-service training for teachers of English, based on innovative approach. The purposes of the project are: To provide English Language Teachers with the opportunity for Professional development -To equip teachers with competence and skills to introduce changes in ELT in their schools SochiINSET is meant for continuous teacher development (teachers are perceived through their new role and capacity as agents of change), specially promoting teacher’s careers. Our goal is to Provide a spectrum of careers which are possible within teaching profession: teacher as a teacher trainer teacher as leader of professional community Teacher as a curriculum developer -Master Teacher. The new model is seen as highly stimulating for teachers and contributing towards capacity .Building in Sochi region not just in teacher training, but also in other Russian-British projects, -Since project culture is its key element.

NPQH - NATIONAL PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION FOR HEADSHIP

This Project is supported by Sochi Education Department and Science Gloucestershire Education Country Council. The National Professional Qualification for Head Teachers project was set up in April 1998 in the Sochi Education Department. The project is a part of a programme of co-operation between the Ministry of General and Professional Education and the Department of Education and Employment Of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It is co-funded by the British Council and the participating Region of Russian Federation.

The Goal of the Project: is to develop a new model of professional training, assessment and Qualification for head teachers adapting Gloucestershire experience to the Russian setting. The project Takes into account objective the conditions and tendencies, field development, the competence Requirements and responsibilities of head teachers for results of their activities. During the course of the project an agreed set of standards of performance and competence of head- Teachers will be established, team of trainers and team of assessors will be trained, and a training Programme that addresses the standards will be designed.

The Project outcomes will be: a tested model for the professional qualification for head teachers; -trained trainers and assessors; The establishment of certification process for the Professional Qualification for Headteachers in Sochi

MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION, MULTICULTURAL COLLEGE IN SOCHI

A new very actual and Global BC project was planned and has started to be implemented already In Sochi – Multicultural Pedagogical College. Sochi is a Multicultural region (located in Caucasus) and we have many nationalities living in a small city. It leads to many religion and National, educational, language problems and conflicts. Multiculturism – is very actual topic. In ELC we have members of 15 nationalities, with different customs, traditions, religions, languages, Styles of life and all of them are united by the common aspiration to get UK related information, English Language, Cambridge Exams, UK Placement. We believe that this new project innovation Will help us in solving and stable Multicultural situation in the region. The Overall Objectives of the Project are: To contribute to increasing tolerance and decreasing conflict problems in Caucasus through teacher Training, based on integration of language and cultural content of education with basis of civil Education and Multiculturism. The purpose of the Project: To establish A College of Multicultural Education in Sochi to train teachers of ethnic languages And culture of ethnicities inhabiting Sochi as well as teachers of other disciplines, working in the Multicultural context of the city. Target Audience: Future and current teachers of ethnic and foreign languages, teachers of social disciplines, teachers of primary Schools Multicultural schools - Ethnic-cultural societies of the city -Educational systems of partners-countries -Organizations engaged in tourism business.
